Design

The basic Lockheed F-4 Lightning was a standard P-38 with the weapons being removed from the nose and putting a clear nose in with cameras.1

Production

The first F-4 flown was in December 1941.1

Usage

The F-4 was used by Australia, France, and the United States.1

First Lightnings Used in Pacific

The F-4 Lightnings were the first used on missions in the Pacific by photographing Japanese movements starting in April 1942.1
