Nuffield designed a replacement for the Crusaders. These were going to be the "Cromwells", however not enough of the new engines were available so Liberty engines were installed. The War Office ordered 500 before it had undergone trials.1
The design was rushed and problems were encountered.
Very rectangular hull and a roomy but angular turret.1
Vehicles only used for training1 or gun tanks.6
Cavalier OP6:
In 1943 the gun replaced by dummy barrel.6 Extra radios installed and used as artillery observation post.
Used in Northwest Europe.1
Cavalier ARV6:
Turrets replaced by A-frame jib.6
