Netherlands' Fokker T.V bomber1
Fokker T.V:
Design
The Fokker T.V was designed in the mid 1930s as a luchtkruiser (heavy battle plane).1 It was to perform as a long range fighter.1 This eventually changed to be a medium bomber.1
Engines
The engines consumed a lot of oil.1 During 1938 - 1939 negotiations were held to replace the Pegasus engines with Dornier Do 215s.1
Prototype
There was no prototype as the T.V was ordered straight from the designs.1 The first production model flew for the first time on October 16, 1937.1
Production
The first eleven produced entered the Luchtvaartfdeling in 1938.1 The next five were delivered in early 1939.1
- Total: 161
Variants
Usage
Nine Fokker T.Vs equipped the Luchtvaartfdeling's (LVA) only bomber squadron that was available when Germany attacked on May 10, 1940.1 All were destroyed during the Five Day War.1
The first T.V was lost when it tried to take off and was bombed by the Germans at Schiphol Airport.1 Others were lost the same day, and there were only five left by day two.1 These were used to bomb German forces.1 By day four there was only one left.1
Last Mission
The last T.V left on a mission to bomb two road and rail bridges being escorted by two Fokker G.I fighters.1 They managed to get to the first target undetected, but the bomb that scored a direct hit failed to explode.1 The three were attacked by nine Bf 109s and destroyed.1
