Design

The Caproni Ca.316 was to replace the Imam Ro.43 floatplane. The Ca.316 was to be launched from warships.

Production priority was give to the Caproni Ca.313 and Ca.314 so the Ca.316 wasn't put into mass production.

Prototype

In August 1940 the first prototype flew.
