Italy's Savoia-Marchetti SM.92 escort fighter

Photos

  • Savoia-Marchetti SM.92 escort fighter

Design

The Savoia-Marchetti SM.92 had the same wings, tail surfaces, and engines as the SM.91 prototype. Unlike the SM.91 the SM.92 did not have the central nacelle for the crew as they were put in a cockpit located in the port boom. The starboard boom had the fuel tanks to help balance the aircraft.

Prototype

The Savoia-Marchetti SM.92 prototype first flew on November 12, 1943 while under the control of the Luftwaffe.
