Gepanzerter Selbstfahrlafette für Sturmgeschütz 7.5 cm Kanone Ausf E,
Sturmgeschütz III Ausf E8,
SdKfz 1428:

German StuG III Ausf E Self Propelled Gun

Produced in 1942.8

Originally 500 were to be produced, but production was cut short when the long StuK 40 was introduced. One chassis was used for the StuH prototype and 12 chassis were used for the StuIG33B.

An armored pannier was added to right side of superstructure.8 It was to carry extra radio gear when it was to be used as a Zugführerwagen (unit commander's vehicles).8 The panniers are longer than the ones on previous models.

The 9mm armored plates on the sides were discontinued. Smaller hinges were installed on the glacis hatches. An MG was added internally. When it was needed to be used the MG had to be brought out and fired by an exposed crewman.

Used FuG15 or FuG16 radio.2
