Design

The Fw 190D replaced the aborted Fw 190B and Fw 190C projects.1

Had an angular radiator system and circular engine cowling.1 This gave the look of a radial engine.1

Prototype

The Fw 190D prototype first flew in March 1942.1 It was all pressurized and had a Jumo 213A engine (1,600 HP).1 These were converted from Fw 190A airframes.1

Usage

Fw 190D-9s started being delivered in August 1944.1 These were initially used to cover the airfields where Me 262s were based.1
