Renault Modèle D1
Designed by Renault in 1926 to be an infantry medium tank for the defense program. Went into service in 1931.
One of 1st tanks in world to have cast turret. Also the 1st French tank to have a 47 mm gun. Suspension had 2 different sized wheels, with the smaller ones grouped in 2s or 3s, with the larger by themselves. The running gear was protected by plates and the hull was riveted.
Had a 6 speed gear box, and was steered through a Cleveland controlled differential.
Had a radio with a triangular aerial behind the turret.
Most of these tanks were used in North Africa.3
