Marcel Riffard based the Caudron C.714 design on racing planes he developed in the early 1930s.1
The Caudron C.714 prototype first flew in September 1938.1 After this, 200 were ordered in two separate orders of 100.1 These orders were cancelled when it was felt that the Caudron C.714 wasn't up to the standards of the Armée de l'Air.1
The only unit equipped with the C.714 was a Polish squadron that had fled Poland.1
