The Japanese Navy developed a two engine multirole aircraft, the P1Y Ginga that never met its full potential due to poor engines.
It now has a page.

One of the coolest looking planes from the World War II area is an all black Northrop P-61 Black Widow night fighter. Just looking at it makes a shiver run down your spine knowing it meant business.
I've made some additional specification and historical updates.

Also luckily for the Allies, especially the RAF, the Heinkel He 219 Uhu night fighter was only built in limited numbers. It was quite capable of even shooting down Mosquitos at night.
I've now added some additional specifications and historical information.

Inspired by the British Mosquito, the Germans developed the Focke-Wulf Ta 154 Moskito. It was to be a night fighter constructed primarily of wood. However, there were faults with the glue used so no more than around 75 Ta 154s were constructed.

It still amazes me that the United Kingdom's de Havilland Mosquito was made primarily out of wood in World War II and flew so exceptionally well in so many roles! I've made some additions and added the specifications for the PR.Mk 34 reconnaissance version.

The best night fighter, designed and produced during World War II was the Northrop P-61 Black Widow. It was a deadly creature of the night, much feared by the enemy. I've always thought the all black color gave it that even deadlier mystic of its nickname, the Black Widow. Fortunately for the Axis powers they didn't arrive until 1944.Labels: night fighter, united states, world war ii
